Ham Radio KN6SWE

I was interested in HAM when I was a kid but getting the license in Hungary in the 80s was not easy. I was not really into CW which was mandatory at that time. -Now I’m learning it.- I was building small receivers and FM transmitter to impress my friends. Neighbors were probably less impressed with all that RF noise I created.

I got my General license in the spring of 2022.

I like to build my own equipment although the Ubtix is pretty much comes as a pre-assembled unit. I’m messing around with SDRs with GNU Radio and learning about modulations and experimenting with RF filters both digital and analog.

My other hobby is CAD design and 3D printing. I designed and printed a 10m dipole mount and a 20/40m fan antenna, so far they are holding on on the roof. I’m using PETG which is stronger and UV resistant compared to the more common PLA.

Current setup:

ICOMM 7300

Ubitx v6 radio (HF Signals)

ZM-4 manual tuner – built from kit

MFJ-822 Watt meter

Easy Digi connected to an external Sound Blaster board, PC

ETTUS SDR with Basic TX and RX boards

10m (28MHz) Antenna

Cad Design with Alibre Pro

To increase the bandwidth I used a ticker rod, later I learned about the skin effect and instead of the heavy solid rod I should have used a tube...

1:1 Balun built from FT240-43 ferrite core and PTFE wires. I designed and printed a custom enclosure

SWR is all right.

20-40m (7MHz, 14MHz) Antenna

Alibre Pro Cad design , fan antenna mount and 1:1 balun cenclosure
Compression wire guide with 6" (15cm) spacing. The orange part is Copperweld wire.
First sweep with the NanoVNA at 7MHz. I intentionally made the Copperweld longer for easier tuning. It is easier to cut than solder...
Very good SWR at 40m. Actually the fan antenna is somewhat resonant at 15m as well with SWR 2.0

OK2ZI 4 Port HF Remote Antenna Switch

Antenna switch CAD design
Indoor Switch Box
