I create replacement parts from aluminum for the XMods Remote Controlled car. The XMods is a low cost nice little car and it’s designed to be tuned. I design the parts with “virtual prototyping" method using Alibre Design 3D parametric modeler (CAD). First I take measurements from all stock parts. Then I remove that part from the drawing which I want to redesign. I come up with a new part using reference points based on the other stock parts. For example: Instead of copying the Tie Rod stock part. I drew a new one using the knuckle’s diameter as reference. This way the new part fits perfectly. (see below)
The beauty of this process is that interferences can be detected at an early stage which leads to better productivity and less scrap parts.

Designed for Xmod Evolution Trucks and Hummers!

Xmod Evolution Slammed Tires work perfectly on these rims. Use on Xmods Evolution Cars not recommended, but with some modifications could possible work.

I found that the stock plastic slammed wheels while turning were rubbing against the truck’s chassis. So I designed a new rim for the slammed tire which sticks out a bit as shown on the picture.

_thb_tie_rod.jpgI started of redesigning the tie or steering rod because the car wouldn't go straight with the stock part. The plastic part was too loose and flexible. There was quite a bit of play between the knuckle's ring and the rod's cylinder.

_thb_chassis08.jpg Xmods fans know that the plastic stock chassis breaks easily around the screw holes. I decided to come up with a new chassis from aluminum. Aluminum is also more rigid and the tighter assembly reduces the play between the gears. The pieces are 1.5mm (0.06 imperial) thick and milled from T6061-T6 aircraft grade aluminum. For better fit I also milled the aluminum and plastic posts.
